Jungle Robot
Ages 8 & up
This is your chance to construct your very own robot—Jungle Robot. The robot is activated by clapping one’s hands or by otherwise making a loud sound. Once started, the robot continues to operate for a predetermined period. Jungle Robot can be assembled to ‘walk’ or travel ‘hand-over-hand’. This is a hands-on program that teaches the basics of electro-mechanical systems, electronic circuitry and related components. Gain experience at reading directions and diagrams, the proper use of simple hand tools, and combining learning with ‘doing’ and ‘fun’. No prior knowledge is assumed or required for this class.
Location: Varies
Instructor: Ed Harrow
Times: Generally offered in the summer, please see brochure for current offerings.
Rhino Beetle
Ages 10-15
Rhino Beetle is an infrared remote controlled robot with caterpillar treads. This robot features an 8-channel remote that controls 4 different motors. These motors control directional movement: forward, backward, left and right; raising and lowering the position of the claw as well as opening and closing the claw. As you build this robot you will develop a basic understanding of the fundamentals of robotics, electronic components and circuits, and explore the use of infrared beams for communication, while learning troubleshooting skills. When the robots are finished we’ll practice ‘rescue’ and ‘bomb disposal’ missions, typical real-world applications for remote-controlled robots. No prior knowledge is assumed or required for this class.
