Westborough Housing Partnership Overview
• Mission Statement
The mission of the Westborough Housing Partnership is to encourage continued availability of well-designed, well-built affordable homes so that people of all economic levels can find a home in Westborough.
• The duties/scope of the committee:
During the first stages of development, members of the Westborough Housing Partnership meet with developers of affordable housing to discuss their building plans to ensure adherence to the Local Housing Partnership Guidelines and the Town’s Master Plan. Working closely with developers through the Local Initiative Program (LIP) enables the Housing Partnership to obtain affordable housing units that are suitable for Westborough in their layout, size, design, and location. Once the developer and the Housing Partnership reach agreement, the Housing Partnership makes its recommendation to the Board of Selectmen and then follows the project through the permitting process.
The Housing Partnership has also been authorized to run housing lotteries for qualified applicants by the Department of Housing and Community Development. This entails creating and distributing a Housing Lottery Packet, interviewing applicants for eligibility according to State requirements, and holding a lottery to determine the buyers of the affordable units. Lotteries for affordable units are held not only for new units but also for resale of affordable units.
• Meeting days and times
The Westborough Housing Partnership meets every two months on Monday evenings at 7:30 p.m as needed. When meeting with developers on a specific project or during a housing lottery, meetings can be more frequent.
